How Many Hinges do I need?
As a general rule, for every 30ā (762 mm) of the door height, there should be one hinge. Most doors are roughly 90ā tall and have three hinges. For doors with a width greater than 37ā (940 mm) to 48ā (122 mm), an extra hinge could be used for additional strength. The extra hinge helps support the additional weight and tension applied to the frame created by the wider door width.
Note: The load capacity mentioned above refers to the use of 2 hinges per door leaf (36 x 83 inches).
